Excellence for all

At Harrow High we serve a unique and extremely diverse community. We call our young people learners as, quite simply, learning is what we expect them to do. It is important to us that we know our students pastorally and academically. It is key for us that every learner makes the progress they are capable of and always achieve above and beyond the targets set for them. We believe that this is a key driver in why we are in the top 5% of schools in the country for contextual value added.

We are a small school with small class sizes and this means more quality time for each and every learner. Our commitment to personalisation ensures our young people have access to a wide range of opportunities in the future. We have a small successful sixth form, strong in languages, with excellent rates of progression to the best universities.

Our learners are respectful and well behaved. They respond well to teachers who have well planned lessons tailored to their needs and who show them empathy.

We believe in Excellence for All. This means:

Excellent Learning & Progress
Challenge and engagement, meeting and exceeding targets
Excellent Aspirations
Quality progression, passion for learning
Excellent Behaviour, Safety and Care for each other
Respectful challenge, showing empathy
Excellent Communication
Understanding each other, clarity of purpose

Everything we do as staff and learners will be true to these core values.

• 7 well-equipped Science laboratories, including a state of the art ‘dry lab’ to support Physics teaching
• A fully equipped Technology suite for Catering, Textiles, Fashion & Design, Resistant Materials and Engineering to support our Applied Learning Curriculum
• Excellent facilities for the Arts including a well equipped Drama suite and specialist Dance studio

Career progression is clear to see

At Harrow High School we offer excellent CPD and career progression. We have worked hard to create and develop a supportive induction process for all new staff. Upon starting you will receive a copy of our ‘Good every time teaching handbook’ and be supported by a departmental mentor. As well as ensuring your induction covers key teaching topics, we will ensure you have all the logistical support and resources you need, so you can confidentially get on with the job in hand.

We offer ongoing CPD tailored to your individual development plan. Lots of our CPD is lead by our staff and centres around the sharing of best practice. As part of this our Headteacher has delivered training on data, school improvement and Raise online. We believe in a collaborative approach and staff are heavily involved in shaping our school, which has most recently included shaping our performance management. Our teachers work in groups of three to observe each other and offer support. We also offer external CPD opportunities
through the highly successful Harrow Collegiate Teaching School Alliance click here for more details.

A career with us offers excellent opportunities to progress. There are many examples of this across the school in particular one of our SLT members started as an NQT and another as a TA.

We offer strong NQT support internally and externally and NQTs can take on a research project in their 2nd year.

The wellbeing of our staff is important to us and we believe in a fair and flexible approach. Our staff work hard and we believe they should be looked after and rewarded.

Our team ethos is very strong, everyone helps everyone

By joining our school you will be welcomed by a diverse, social, friendly and supportive staff team. We enjoy having fun and our team ethos is very strong, everyone helps everyone.

We welcome new members of the team and embrace new ideas. Many of our staff have been with us a long time and we often have people return to us that have previously left.

There is always a member of senior staff on hand and the SLT have an open door policy.
